Philosophy
If
you are with a nonprofit that's seeking foundation funding, you need to
understand that the foundations need you just as much as you need them.
Each foundation has a mission, and like any organization they need to
achieve their missions. But the foundation does not have programs and
operations - they depend on finding agencies such as yours through
which their mission can be achieved. If your agency's mission and
programs are taking you where the foundation needs to go, then the
foundation will be interested. If you can show that you are a
well-managed agency, able to manage funds, accomplish your objectives,
and produce objectively measurable results, then you will be a strong
candidate for the agency's funding. All that's left is the need to
create articulate documentation of all of this, in a form and manner
that's fully compliant with the foundation's requirements.
